Rockwall County Jail Roster

The Rockwall County Jail Inmate Roster in Texas is a public resource that allows anyone to check if a specific person is in custody. RockwallCourt.us provides access to publicly available information about current and recent inmates. Additionally, data can be obtained through the official jail records portal on the sheriff's office website, by phone, or during a personal visit to the facility. The roster allows you to find out the custody status, charges, and bail information. It is maintained by the Detention Division of the Rockwall County Sheriff's Office, and the data is regularly updated on the county's official website.

Find Rockwall Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created each time a person is officially admitted to jail. This process is called booking, and during it, key data is recorded:

  • Unique booking number
  • Date and time of admission
  • Charges filed
  • Arresting agency
  • Bail amount (if set)

These records typically become available on the Jail Records portal after the booking procedure is completed. It may take from a few hours to a day for the record to appear in the online system, depending on staff workload.

If you need information not displayed in the online roster, you can submit an official public information request. Rockwall County has a special online form for this according to the Texas Public Information Act. In the form, select the Sheriff's Office as the appropriate department.

For a statewide criminal history check, contact the Crime Records Division of the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Search the Rockwall Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

There are two main ways to search on the Jail Records portal.

Search by Last Name

Enter the person's last name in the appropriate field. If the last name is common, add the first name to narrow the results. A few tips:

  • Check the spelling — even one incorrect letter can result in no results.
  • Try entering only the first few letters of the last name if the system supports partial matches.
  • If the last name contains a hyphen or apostrophe, try searching with and without them.

Search by Booking Number

The booking number is the most accurate way to find a specific record. It is assigned during booking and is unique for each jail admission. If you have received this number from an attorney, police, or another source, use it first.

What to Do If the Search Yields No Results

The absence of results does not necessarily mean the person was not detained. Possible reasons:

  1. The person has not yet completed processing, and the record has not yet appeared in the system.
  2. The person has already been released — after release, records may disappear from the active roster.
  3. The name is entered incorrectly or does not match the legal name in documents.

In such a case, call the Detention Division directly at (972) 204-7100. Also, check the warrants section — a warrant may have been issued, but the arrest has not yet been made.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Rockwall

The inmate roster is updated regularly, but this does not happen instantly. There is usually a delay between the time a detainee is physically brought to jail and the appearance of their record in the online system — from a few hours to about a day. Delays are related to the booking process: fingerprinting, photographing, data entry.

Important things to understand about roster limitations:

  • Only current inmates. The roster displays individuals currently in custody. It is not an archive of all past arrests.
  • Records disappear after release. When a person is released on bail, by court decision, or after serving their term, their record is usually removed from the active list.
  • Data entry delays. During periods of increased workload — for example, on weekends — updates may occur more slowly.
  • Records sealed by court order. Some cases may be sealed or subject to expunction or nondisclosure procedures, and they will not appear in any public roster.

To obtain archival records or documents not available online, submit a request through the public information request form of Rockwall County. Responses are provided within the timeframes specified by the Texas Public Information Act.
